Valentine's Day is the perfect occasion to spread love and joy in your daycare. Whether you're a caregiver, teacher, or parent helping with the celebration, creating a heartwarming and festive atmosphere can make this day special for the little ones. In this blog post, we'll explore delightful ways to celebrate Valentine's Day in your daycare, from heart-shaped straws to love bug headbands.

Heart-Shaped Straws: Start the day with a sip of love! Invest in heart-shaped straws to add a touch of Valentine's charm to drinks. Whether it's milk, juice, or a special Valentine's Day punch, these cute straws will make every sip feel like a little celebration. I got these straws from Target.

Passing Out Cards: Valentine's Day wouldn't be complete without the exchange of cards. Encourage children to express their affection for one another by creating personalized Valentine's Day cards. Set up a crafting station with colored paper, markers, stickers, and other craft supplies, allowing the kids to unleash their creativity. This activity not only promotes artistic expression but also teaches the importance of kindness and appreciation. I like to set out ribbons, gems, and tulle as well! You can get a valentine's card kit from amazon with pre-cut hearts and supplies to decorate with. I would recommend this one from amazon:

Coloring and Activity Pages: Engage the children with Valentine's Day-themed coloring and activity pages. You can find my valentine activity pack featuring adorable hearts, writing practice, counting, color by numbers, and so much more in my online store. Set up a coloring station with crayons, markers, and colored pencils, providing a relaxing and enjoyable activity for the children. Additionally, activity pages like word searches or mazes can add an extra layer of excitement.

Themed Foods: Transform snack time into a Valentine's Day feast by incorporating themed foods. Heart-shaped cookies, sandwiches, and fruit cutouts are easy and delightful options. Consider arranging a special snack buffet with an assortment of red and pink treats like strawberries, watermelon, and cherry tomatoes. This not only adds a festive touch but also encourages healthy eating habits. Last year for valentine's day our P.M snack included a mini fruit pizza for every child with pink cream cheese fruit dip as the pizza sauce, and red/pink fruit for the toppings such as cherries, strawberries, raspberries, etc. The kids loved it!

Love Bug Headbands: Get crafty with love bug headbands! Have the children join you at a table and pass out 4 pink or red construction paper hearts to each child. Next give each child a long strip of white paper. Allow the children to decorate the hearts and the paper with crayons, markers, stickers, etc. When the children are done decorating their paper pieces, take two pipe cleaners and scrunch them up in a zig zag pattern. After the pipe cleaners are scrunched, gently pull them apart so they're extended but still zigzagged. Attach the hearts to the pipe cleaners by placing the pipe cleaner in the middle of one heart adding glue around the pipe cleaner and sticking another heart on top to seal the pipe cleaner in. Staple the long strip of white paper in a circle to make a crown. Staple the ends of the pipe cleaners on each side of the crown, and now the love bug headbands are done.

Valentine's Day in your daycare can be a heartwarming and memorable experience for both children and caregivers. By incorporating fun things like heart-shaped straws, card exchanges, coloring activities, themed foods, and love bug headbands, you're sure to create an atmosphere filled with love, creativity, and joy. Celebrate the day by fostering a sense of community and teaching valuable lessons about kindness and friendship. After all, Valentine's Day is not just about romantic love – it's a celebration of all the special connections we share.
